Simple Mining, a Bitcoin mining hosting and infrastructure company, has acquired an approximately 8-megawatt facility in Cedar Falls, Iowa, previously operated by Sphere 3D, the company announced Wednesday. The acquisition expands Simple Mining's total platform capacity to nearly 160 megawatts.
The Iowa site supports roughly 2,200 latest-generation mining machines, adding meaningful hashrate capacity to Simple Mining's growing portfolio. The purchase represents a continued consolidation trend in the Bitcoin mining sector, where established infrastructure operators are absorbing smaller or distressed sites as the industry matures following successive halving cycles.

Cedar Falls joins what the company describes as a broader hosting and infrastructure network, suggesting Simple Mining is positioning itself as a large-scale, multi-site operator rather than a single-location provider. The deal also underscores ongoing asset movement within the publicly traded mining space, as companies like Sphere 3D reassess capital allocation and divest physical infrastructure.
